Artistry, Photography, and Poetry – Breast Cancer Awareness Edition

As many of you already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and being that the three original members of The INTELlectual revoLUTION each have a medical background, why not help to spread the word about this disease and month with some alternatives to the usual. Some people do commercials and others do public service announcements, but I will take the more “artistic” road and use poetry to give some perspective on the topic.

Side note: I did a post about breast cancer awareness a while ago that some would say was more geared towards making men aware. And although it wasn’t the most politically correct it did get some people talking about the issue–which was the bigger purpose of it. (If interested in that post click here.)

I looked around earlier today to see what was out there, and at first I wanted to find a professional type of poem delivered in an overly charismatic way. But after doing a little searching I realized that wasn’t what I needed to post. I then decided to post accounts of those affected in some way, seasoned veterans or not.

This way, hopefully those who take time to read or listen will see that this breast cancer affects all people. Not just women. Not just one age group. No just one ethnicity. Not just one sexuality. Not just one income level or social class. It truly affects everyone, which is why being educated and prepared is so important to us all.

I’ll save all the statistical talk for another time, but you can click the links underneath the videos to visit some sites that can give you this information if interested. But, if you do have some spare time please check out the poems from various people affected by breast cancer in different ways. Please don’t let the quality of the videos or the delivery of the poems deter you from what each person is saying. They all have a unique voice, point of view, and purpose.

Thanks for reading and be sure to check out the rest of the site (T.I.R.) when you get a chance. Let us know what you think in the comment section below or on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
